A very serious and growing problem with some Christians who take the leap from Arminianism into Calvinism is how quickly they become distorted, pharisaical, hyper-Calvinists. These hyper-Calvinists swiftly transform into self-appointed, religious police who aggressively go after those “theologically weak free-willers”.
How quickly they forget God’s loving-kindness toward them during their own wrestling with God’s sovereign grace. Reformed theology is far more extensive than any five points. Reformed theology is a dedication to the sufficiency of Scripture.
A dedication to God’s Word, and a patience with those who are seeking God in truth, will go a lot further toward reaching Arminians than will beating them over the head with TULIPs.
Let us consider that our desire is to bring our Arminian brothers to a greater understanding of Christ and His work, and the sovereignty of God. It is not to win a theological debate. The Canons of Dordt, which was the original appeal to Arminians, is incredibly gracious, yet direct, in its communication of reformed theology, and a good place for your further study of these important truths.
